The Sound of Rain by Sarah Loudin Thomas - 5 Stars

The Sound of Rain
by Sarah Loudin Thomas (Goodreads Author)
This book has everything, romance, a mine cave in, a hurricane, a couple whose Father and Mother don’t approve of their being together and Faith in God above.  What more could a person want in reading a book?  Also love, lots of love!  The inspirational drama takes place in the town of Myrtle Beach, South Caroline.  A miner comes to town who no longer wishes to go under ground to earn a living and starts working for Larkin Heyward’s Fathers timber company.  He falls in love with the daughter of the owners’ daughter which just isn’t suitable, until she runs away to join her brother who has become a minister to the people of Appalachia.  Larkin just wants to help people she soon finds though that these people are proud people and they don’t want help from any outsiders.  I picked the book up and read it through in a day or two.  It was hard to put down.  Judd and Larkin’s story as told in this novel is a wonderful read and I do recommend the book to anyone who likes to read romance!

This book was a gift from Bethany House, they give them out in hopes that the recipient will post reviews of the book which I have.  I’m sure the writer will appreciate the post!

In the Shadows of the Hills, Faith Will See Them Through

Judd Markley knew he could never set foot underground again. The mine collapse that nearly killed him and claimed his brother's life meant leaving West Virginia forever. Although that hard-Appalachian world was all he knew, he put it behind him and headed for the open sky of the thriving town of 1954 Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Larkin Heyward's life in the beach town is uncomplicated, mostly volunteer work and dancing at the Pavilion. But she dreams of one day doing more and being more--maybe moving to the hills and hollers of Kentucky to help the poor children of Appalachia. But she's never even met someone who's lived there--until she encounters Judd, the newest employee at her father's timber company.

Drawn together in the wake of a hurricane that changes Myrtle Beach forever, Judd's and Larkin's dreams pull them in divergent directions. It will take a significant sacrifice to keep them together--or maybe, it will take a miracle.

Across the Blue by Carrie Turansky - Five Stars!

Isabella Grayson wishes when she grew up she could write articles for her Fathers newspapers.  Although back in that time it wasn’t a suitable endeavor for a woman.  She had to go to parties, be presented to the Queen and find a beau and get married.  Particularly one with money!
James Grant grew up his entire life with no idea who his parents were.  Although he was taken in by a professor, who also helps him build one of the first airplanes which he feels is his life dream to fly…..he always wanted to know who his parents were and why he was given up for adoption.
Isabella and James meet and fall in love, they over come many obstacles, her Mother doesn’t believe James is a proper suitor he doesn’t have money!
This being an inspirational type of book, they do a lot of praying and they learn many lessons along the way, which if I shared them with you it would give away the outcome.
Isabella’s Father and newspaper puts up a bunch of money and a promise of fame for any pilot who can cross the English Channel first.  Isabella agrees if her Father will let her write articles for the newspaper on the pilots getting prepared to cross the channel, that she will take seriously any offers for her hand in marriage.
Read the book, it’s a good one I promise!  I gave it five stars.  "I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review."

When James Grant, an aspiring aviator, crashes his flying machine at the Grayson's new estate, Bella is intrigued. James is determined to be the first to fly across the Channel and win the prize Mr. Grayson's newspaper is offering. He hopes it will help him secure a government contract to build airplanes and redeem a terrible family secret.
